6 Symptoms Must Change Spark Plugs in Cars – Car spark plugs are an important component of a car engine. The function of the spark plug is to produce a spark in the combustion chamber. Thus, the mixture of fuel (gasoline) and air that has been compressed previously can explode (burn) and produce engine power. Without sparks from the spark plugs, the engine cannot start and cannot generate power to turn the wheels.
Just like other car engine components that have a service life, so do spark plugs. It also has a service life which if it is past the time, then we have to replace the spark plug. Basically, we can replace spark plugs based on the distance traveled or the length of time used.

6 Symptoms Must Change Spark Plugs in Cars
In addition, we can also find out the signs that the car’s spark plugs must be replaced based on the conditions that occur in the engine. Well, the following article will inform you of the symptoms we need to freshen car spark plugs. Check out the full details below.

1. Car Engine is Difficult to Run ON
Symptoms of car spark plugs we have to replace, which we generally feel the first time is the engine is difficult to start. Making the engine starter is easy, but the engine does not start even though we have done the engine starter many times. If the condition is like this, usually the number of damaged spark plugs is more than one.
If only one spark plug is damaged, the engine is usually still easy for us to start. However, with a longer starter duration if we compare it to when the spark plugs are still good.
Spark plugs have an important role to burn a mixture of fuel and compressed air so that they can produce engine power. Without a spark plug that works properly then the engine will be difficult to start and generate power.
2. Car Engine Lames and Vibrates Strongly When Idle and Low RPM
The symptom we have to replace the second car spark plug is when the engine feels limp and vibrates. This usually occurs at idle and low rpm conditions. Partially damaged car spark plugs (such as one or two damaged spark plugs) are often the cause of the engine limping and vibrating at low rpm.
Damaged and dead spark plugs will make one or part of the engine cylinders not produce power. This condition makes the engine work imperfectly and makes the engine spin unbalanced, causing vibrations at both idle and low rpm. When the rpm is high, usually the symptoms of limp and vibration in the engine will disappear by itself.
3. The Exhaust Smoke Feels Bitter and Smells
In addition to the engine limping and difficult for us to turn on, the next symptom we have to replace the car’s spark plugs is when the exhaust smoke stings and smells bad. Yes, when the spark plug is partially dead or damaged, the exhaust fumes that come out will feel sore in the eyes. In addition, you will feel the pungent smell of fuel that is not completely burned.
This condition indicates that one or part of the engine cylinder does not burn the fuel mixture. As a result, the remaining fuel comes out through the exhaust along with exhaust gases from other cylinders which are still functioning normally.
4. The color of the spark plug head is dark black and oil-wet
The next symptom of car spark plugs we need to replace it when the color of the spark plug head turns black and looks like wet oil. The color of the spark plug head, which is jet black and wet with oil, indicates that the spark has not occurred in the spark plug. Or at least, the spark plugs are not able to spark sparks perfectly. Thus, we have to replace the spark plug.
However, even though this condition does not indicate certainty that the spark plug we have to replace it. But in general and from past experience, this kind of spark plug condition is no longer suitable for us to use. Unless there are other special problems such as leaking intake valves or even leaking injectors.
Therefore we need a tool that usually has the name spark plug tester. With this tool, we can determine whether the spark plugs can still be used or should be replaced.

5. The spark plug gap is too wide
Another symptom of car spark plugs we have to replace them when the spark plug gap is too wide. Replacement spark plugs due to the spark plug gap being too wide, we often do this on iridium spark plugs. The reason is, that we cannot adjust the spark plug gap on the iridium spark plug. It’s different from ordinary spark plugs, if the spark plug gap is too wide, we can still adjust it back to the factory standard size.
6. Spark Plugs Can’t Produce Sparks
Symptoms of car spark plugs we have to replace the last thing I know is when the spark plugs can no longer produce sparks. Generating sparks at the head of this spark plug is the main function of the spark plug. Without it, we can’t start the engine
Well, to find out if the spark plugs can no longer produce sparks, then we can use a spark plug tester or see directly when the engine is started. If there is no spark at the head of the spark plug, then we must replace the spark plug with a new one.
Thus the article about the signs of car spark plugs that we must replace I can convey this time. Hopefully, this article can be useful.
