In fact, these two features are a form of the application of the Vehicle To Load (V2L) EV technology on the Ford F-150 Lightning. Ford Intelligent Backup Power is a feature of the Ford F-150 Lightning that turns the electric truck into a backup power source.
Ford claims this feature is useful when the owner’s house experiences a power failure during a storm or heatwave.
“The F-150 Lightning is designed to provide a smooth transition between charging and powering the home,” said Ryan O’Gorman, Electric Vehicle Manager for Ford Motor Company.
The Ford Intelligent Backup Power feature works automatically when we connect the Ford F-150 Lightning to the 80 amperes Ford Charging Station Pro.
When the house experiences a power failure, the owner will be given notification via the smartphone application that the Intelligent Backup Power is active. When active, the F-150 Lightning battery will supply electricity to the home with a claimed maximum power of 9.6 kW.
With the Extended-Range battery, Ford claims the F-150 Lightning is capable of providing backup electricity for 3 days with a count of 30 kWh per day.
Not only Ford Intelligent Backup Power, the Ford F-150 Lightning also features Pro Power Onboard. Unlike the Intelligent Backup Power, we can access the Pro Power Onboard through the 120 V and 240 V sockets in the front trunk and rear trunk.
This feature gives the owner access to battery power to power camping gear or work tools. So that F-150 Lightning owners no longer need to rent a generator while building a house or camping in the open air.
