How Does a CVT System Work?

Technically, the conventional toothed wheel in a CVT is replaced by two adjustable drums and a steel drive belt. The movement of this steel belt is formed by each drum. The diameter of each drum is regulated by a transmission computer which increases or decreases the pressure of oil into each moving part of each drum. This is a low ratio (gear 1).

In the high gear (top gear) high-pressure oil enters the drive pulley. The diameter of the drum is now reversed so that the drive pulley rotates faster than the moving pulley.

“As for the size numbers for the Honda (Mobilio) pulley bearings, it is quite unique and no one sells it except for the following set with the CVT pulley. So if you want to change, you have to change the pulley too,” he explained again.

He also explained that usually the hum of a Honda CVT transmission (Mobilio) mostly occurs on used and aged Hondas. In addition, the former owner did not perform CVT maintenance properly.
