Important Parts of Common Rail Diesel Engines – In the midst of the threat of energy scarcity and global warming, almost everyone is experiencing the effects. Automotive manufacturers can not be separated from the influence of these two world-changing factors. They work hand in hand to create a vehicle that can reduce anxiety or even solve problems. One of the things they do is make engines that have high fuel efficiency, such as the common rail diesel engine.
The common rail diesel engine has unquestionable capabilities. The world’s automotive manufacturers have used this for their new diesel cars. Even commercial vehicles have prepared to use this technology. Common rail is different from the conventional diesel engines of the past. This technology has had some fundamental changes and therefore there are very important parts for us to pay attention to.
Important Parts of Common Rail Diesel Engines
Most of today’s diesel cars already use common rail technology. The common rail diesel engine has the main advantages of large power but optimal fuel efficiency. Behind the common rail diesel engine technology, there are several supporting parts that play a role in engine performance.
In the following section, I will try to discuss the important parts of a common rail diesel engine. In it, I try to discuss it briefly so that you understand the common rail diesel engine much better.
The common rail diesel engine already uses a turbocharger component as additional air induction in the engine and combustion chambers. With the turbocharger, the air that enters the engine combustion chamber can be more compressed. This has the aim of making high compression and combustion in the engine combustion chamber more optimal.

In effect, the power generated is also increased compared to conventional diesel engines which are considered slow.
However, vehicle owners must really take care of this turbocharger. The increase in power from the base engine and after using the turbocharger is 30s percent. This is of enormous value. You can imagine if the turbocharger is damaged then you will also lose 30 percent of the power of the engine. A very big change, especially when you travel and require a large enough engine power.
2. Direct Injection
Air entering the combustion chamber with high compression does not require a high fuel flow rate. This is the main characteristic of a diesel engine. Namely, the piston only compresses the incoming air through the intake manifold. This fact also explains the reason the diesel engine air filter must be really clean so that only clean air enters the combustion chamber. To increase the pressure of the air entering the combustion chamber, the first part we described earlier – the turbocharger – helps to compress the air properly.
The injector provides a fog effect when the fuel enters the combustion chamber thereby minimizing wasted fuel. As far as our experience goes, common rail diesel engines use a direct injection system. This means that the fuel goes directly into the combustion chamber where there is compressed air. The power from the combustion can also be more in line with the discharge of the fuel atomized in the combustion chamber.
In terms of power and fuel efficiency, this system is really a good feature for common rail diesel engines. But this also has its drawbacks. But if we don’t want to say weakness maybe we can replace it as a mandatory discipline. The reason is, that if there is just a small problem with the injectors on each cylinder, the engine will have problems. Fuel can enter the combustion chamber directly continuously. And this causes problems in the diesel engine stroke cycle. So, you have to really maintain the condition of the injector to keep it working optimally at all times.
3. Good Quality Diesel Fuel
With turbocharger technology, direct injection, and high compression, of course, the common rail diesel engine is anti with low-quality diesel fuel. The use of good quality diesel fuel prevents residue and water content that clogs the injectors and interferes with the fuel combustion process in the engine combustion chamber.
In some cases in developing countries, diesel fuel has very low quality. Even regular maintenance still doesn’t keep the engine in good condition. Therefore, owners of diesel vehicles with a common rail system should pay attention to the quality of diesel fuel. This is to maintain good performance and especially to keep the engine running well for a long time.
There are three Important Parts of Common Rail Diesel Engines that you need to pay attention to. They are interrelated and nothing is more important. Of the three, we can see that each one is bound to make the machine run into serious problems if we ignore it. Therefore, as the owner of a common rail diesel vehicle, you must pay attention to the three things above.
