Toyota Fortuner Australia Made in Indonesia – Cars made in Indonesia for the first time can penetrate the Australian automotive market. The car is a large SUV Toyota Fortuner made by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN). The first export of the Toyota Fortuner ‘Made in Indonesia’ has been since February 2022. However, are there any differences between Fortuner’s specifications for Australia and Fortuner in the Indonesian market?
Toyota Fortuner Australia Made in Indonesia
Toyota Indonesia has started exporting the Toyota Fortuner to Australia. Of course, this is a very good achievement. This is because penetrating the Australian market is quite difficult due to strict regulations in the kangaroo country. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said exports to Australia were the same as exports to Japan. The two destination countries are known to have strict requirements.
“For example, related to fuel specifications, emissions, and safety. (Receiving products from Indonesia) indicates that the Indonesian automotive industry has high competitiveness. So that there are many manufacturers of Indonesian products in various foreign markets,” said Minister of Industry Agus.
Regarding the export of the Toyota Fortuner to Australia, the Director of External Affairs for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) Bob Azam said that there will be 600 units that they have left for Australia. The number of units is quite a lot since the beginning of car exports abroad.
“This year we plan to export 600 Fortuner units to Australia,” explained Bob.

He also emphasized that the export volume will be carried out in stages. And the most important thing according to him, is to maintain the quality of the products sent.
“So step by step and hope to develop in the future. Because the first export must build trust, especially quality or quality assurance,” explained Bob.
Toyota Fortuner exports have to match the Australian market. Especially the standards that Australia uses for ICE vehicles. One of the times is to comply with Euro 5 rules. The Toyota Fortuner that is exported is a new model with a 1GD-FTV engine with a capacity of 2,800cc.
“There are special specifications for Australian consumers that need adjustment, such as the engine which already uses the Euro 5 emission standard,” he said.
Toyota Fortuner 2.8 engine 1GD-FTV
The first two types of GDada machines are 2GD-FTV with a capacity of 2.4 L and the new one is 1GD-FTV. This GD engine is important and highly favored by consumers, because of the common rail technology and the turbocharger nozzle which we call VNT.

In addition to the question of power, torque, and tantalizing acceleration, this machine also has a good emission output. It’s even equivalent to a 2GD-FTV engine with a smaller capacity of 2.4 L. The power of a 1GD engine has more of the same efficiency, and relatively the same emissions as 2GD, this is also interesting. And according to Toyota’s official website, which was published in 2015, when the GD engine was first updated, there were several technologies that made it superior.

This is the first machine in the world, which uses Thermo Swing Wall Insulation Technology (TSWIN). Thanks to TSWIN, this engine has the best thermal efficiency with a maximum number of 44 percent. Furthermore, there is also Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, which aims to eliminate up to 99 percent of NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions, which is one of the main causes of air pollution.
